The Romance of Crossed Destinies

In the midst of a thick forest, there was a structure that gave shelter to all travelers overtaken by night on their journey. A rattling drawbridge was crossed. A dark courtyard was passed to arrive. Talking angry cats accompanied the travellers who were breathless, hardly able to stand on. After turning left and some stairs were climbed, the travellers found themselves in a high, spacious hall. Lords and ladies, royalty and their retinue, humble wayfarers as travellers were usually guests of the structure, but they were a bit strange this time! Addition to human-like, creatures from different times and spaces, hybrid bodies or only the limbs were there. Many were seated at dark, looking one another in the face, with the torment of not being able to exchange the many experiences each had to communicate. At that point, two ladies who seemed the owners of the structure came, setting a pack of cards of limbs. They put them in a pocket and wanted the travellers to take one. One of the guests took one card and placed it in front of himself. They all noticed the resemblance between his face and the face on the card, and they thought they understood that, with the card, he wanted to say “I” and that he was preparing to tell his story.
